Questa guida è frutto della mia esperienza e delle informazioni reperibili sul forum internazionale e italiano di Ubuntu.

L'immagine
L'immagine che vorremo posizionare come sfondo nel grub dovrà avere determinate caratteristiche.
La prima è senza dubbio la grandezza 640x480. Quindi aprire l'immagine con Gimp e attraverso lo strumento Scala immagine (che si trova nel menù Immagine) ridimensionare l'immagine scelta a 640x480 (scusate le ripetizioni di parola )
Adesso è importante indicizzare l'immagine a 14 colori, per fare questo andare in Immagine -> Modalità -> Indicizzata...
Nel Menù che comparirà scegliere l'opzione Genera Tavolozza Ottimale ed impostare il numero massimo di colori a 14, a questo punto cliccare su Conversione.
Adesso non rimane far altro che salvare l'immagine nella propria Home in formato xpm (per l'esempio utilizzeremo il nome usplash.xpm).

Compressione immagine
L'immagine dovrà essere compressa con gzip per poter essere usata correttamente quindi da terminale dare :
