Dopo i quad core di Intel, era logico aspettarsi i Quad core di AMD.
Sono infatti usciti da poco tempo gli AMD Phenom, processori basati sugli opteron ma ottimizzati per i Computer Desktop. A differenza degli Opteron, i Phenom non avranno il supporto alle memorie ECC Registered (poichè non richiesta nei sistemi desktop).
Compatibilità massima con le schede madri AM2+ che permetteranno al processore di sfruttare a pieno la tecnologia HyperTransport 3.0.
Una sola nota dolente, i processori Phenom non potranno mai essere montanti in schede dual socket (quindi scordiamoci i sistemi phenom ad 8core ad esempio).
È da dire che AMD ha lavorato per rendere compatibili i Phenom con le attuali schede madri AM2, questa compatibilità però dovrà essere \"supportata\" dal bios (quindi se le case delle schede madri non fanno un aggiornamento al bios non si potrà utilizzare il Phenom).
Come ultima caratteristica vorrei mettere in evidenza la presenza di ben 2MB di cache in L3 (condivisa dai core) e di 2MB di cache in L2.

Parlando invece della cosa che interessa forse maggiormente al pubblico, sono i prezzi.. e che dire se non che AMD rimane imbattibile sui prezzi rispetto ad Intel? Infatti i processori in europa se pur di ultima generazione e molto potenti al lancio non hanno superato i 190€ (Phenom 9600).
